The List

I don't like New Year's Resolutions.
Nope, I don't. I think it insinuates that you weren't good enough in the last year and let's be honest, I think on average we are doing the a pretty good job at being ourselves. Sure, its totally true that we all have room for improvement but I don't think we should start our new year out with such negativity. So this year I am making a list of things I would like to incorporate more of in life as apposed to things I want to change about myself.

1. More Music Everyday.
When I taught dance I was constantly surrounded by music. Now my job doesn't require music as my biggest tool so somehow I kinda lost site of my love for music. So I hope that in 2010 I would like to surround myself with music that makes me happy instead of having the tv on as background music.

2.More Meditation
A year ago I was a meditation queen! I was at the place where I didn't fall asleep while meditating, I was able to keep my brain quiet and it felt sooo good! Somehow life got in the way of my 30 minutes of meditation a day. I am hoping to make baby steps this year to bring me back to my more centered, meditative self.

3. More Healthy Choices.
I love food a whole bunch. And that is all well and good, but sometimes I put food into my mouth that doesn't agree with me (sugars and dairy) or even food that I am not even hungry for. I hope that in 2010 I can think of how food will make me feel after I eat it as well as if I am even hungry for it. OH yeah, and I should probably get back to the gym. yah that would be good.

4. More Reading!
Last year I read 32 books, keep in mind this is all while going to school and working two jobs. So this year I am going to try and read 52 books, one for each week of the year. I would love to hear good book recommendations as well as having you as my friend on GoodReads!

What is on your list?

Say Christmas Trees!

Jon and I have started somewhat of a tradition of taking a picture in front of our Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. Not really sure why we do it. But why not right? Here is last year's picture:
I reminded Jon that we needed to take our second annual Christmas tree picture on Christmas Eve. So we took this picture:
Obviously waaaay to dark...and Jon has a super creepy look on his face. He looks like he snuck up behind me. So we tried again. Now keep in mind I am taking my glasses off for each picture so I cannot see a thing. Imagine my surprise when I put my glasses back on to see this on the MacBook
Jon wanted to show me what creepy actually looks like. After laughing hysterically till I cried we finally took an acceptable photo. And I kept my glasses on this time so I could see what he was doing behind my back.
Seconds after this was taken Jon turned to me and said, "This is making the blog right?"

We had a very nice Christmas, did you? Also, I asked this on twitter, but when do you take your Christmas tree down? I am superstitious so we wait until after January 1st.

Getting My DIY On!

I've had the problem lately where all of my delicate necklaces get tangled in the little dish I keep them in and my earrings were being forgotten in the drawer. And even though those little tree jewelry holders are cute, they also take up precious counter space. So in a flash of inspiration and confidence with a glue gun I made my own jewelry holder/display area.
Let's take a closer look shall we?
All I did was take four thin picture hanging nails and put them in a little diamond formation. Make sure that you leave enough nail out of the wall so you can hang your jewelry from it.
After I hammered in the nails I went and looked for some spare buttons to put on the front of the nails. But instead I found some old coins from some of my travels and thought those would do the trick too. So I just hot glued them onto the nails. See:
And there you have it, the finished product. I am pretty pleased with it!

Pictures of My Life...You Asked, I Snapped

This was such a fun little experiment and I thank you all for playing along . So you asked and I snapped some pictures in response!

Raven: I want to see your favorite spot in the house: couch, bed, kitchen, reading nook, office, balcony?
I kinda chuckled a bit when I was asked this question because we have a one bedroom apartment and space is at a premium. But when I really thought about it I would have to say that the couch in the living room is my favorite spot in the place. It is where Frank and I start our day long after Jon has left the house (and Frank and I wake up at 7am!). I love to have a cup of tea and watch the TODAY show in this spot. It is also a place where I can catch a nap and where our family and friends gather. And...and, it is where our books are stored, books I have read are like the heads of animals that a hunter has killed-so I guess you could say the living room is like my trophy room.

Julia: so fun! i wanna see a pic of your entire closet!

Thar she is, my closet. It may not seem like it but my closet is indeed color coded. Yes, really. Our old apartment had a wonderful, yummy walk in closet where all of my frocks could breathe spaciously. Notsomuch with this apartment; all my girls are crammed in this closet and a lot of my clothes have been delegated to a dresser.

See Sherm Blog: Ok, I want to see your SHOE STASH!! I mean, like a picture of all your shoes and how you organize them. Or if they are just in a big pile on your closet floor, like mine. :-)
Um I kinda of have a problem with shoes. I can never have enough. I will buy shoes before I buy clothes...or food if given the chance.
Flats and sandals stashed on old binders.
Heels because I am only five four and I need all the boosting I can get.
What do ya know, more shoes hiding out on the top shelf.
And some more on the floor spilling out of the closet. See I told ya, kinda a problem...Kinda.

secretz01: I'd love to see your favorite thing in your fridge right now... :)
Cheese of any way shape or form is a staple of our fridge. Right now we have some yummy Monterey Jack which has been rockin my world on sandwiches....and on its own. Bell peppers are also a reliable favorite, my faves are yellow/orange and reds (as Jon likes to point out, they are the most expensive of the bell pepper choices)
Jimaie: hmm, I wanna see your refrigerator and pantry! LOL this request is so me right? MMM FOOOD! Our apartment doesn't have a pantry (boooo) so we have to make do with one cupboard in our kitchen. Yes, that is right one cupboard will have to suffice for the non-refrigerator items. I am getting quite the spice collection from all of my Cooking Light recipes, there is some Crystal Light and some garlic salt in there too.
Our fridge is home to two different raspberry jam's (I'm a fool for raspberry jam), lemon curd, three types of hot sauce (one of which is official Elvis hot sauce), one bottle of ginger beer and two types of salsa...among of course your everyday products like lunch meat and salad fixins.

Katelin: I want to see a picture of where you eat your meals:
Here is our official dining room. It has a table we got from an antique shop and pictures from various moments in our life. On the red wall are two rubbings from the grave sites of a married couple that were buried in Westminster Abbey. Some might think this is morbid but we love 'em, we found the rubbings at a goodwill and just had to snatch them up! Oh and look, there is where Frank eats!

Daddy Dan: Your office area, both home and at work!
Does this look familiar? yeah, that's because it is our dining room table again. The space the table offers me is perfect for researching, writing and doing notes. One day it would be idyllic to have an actual home office with pictures of our travels propped up on an old desk but for now this totally works....because it has to. ha!

On to the other part of the question. My work office. So as you may or may not know, I am a therapist intern. So that means I work in an office without a desk and instead in one with a comfy couch and chair. Lots of hard work is done by very good people in there and I hope you can understand but I would kinda like to keep that private for them. But I will show you the fancy stair case that is in my office building, I love it!
X: I wanna see your car and where your adorable doggie sleeps.

There is much debate round these parts as to who suggested Frank join Jon and I in bed (it was TOTALLY JON) but Frank does indeed share our double bed with us. That's three of us strategically sleeping in one double, no not queen, DOUBLE bed. It is the bed I had when I lived with my parents and it is an antique but yes, it is small. It has been decided that our next "us" purchase will be a bed.

On any given day you can see Frank and I cruisin the streets in my red bug. I call her Nadia, and I got her in college and I love her to pieces. Actually I think I might actually be loving her to pieces because she seems to be falling apart. Oh well, I will love her until I can't anymore.
