YouTube Findings

I know this has been EVERYWHERE already but I just had to have it on my page! I don't know if it is the way his arm is propped up on his leg or the way he is dialed into the tv or how the remote is so casually resting next to him but this video just made my day when I saw it.

This next video also had me cracking up but for different reasons. I can remember when I worked as a receptionist and all of the clients were coming in with cookies, cakes and other tempting treats. I would dutifully put them in the break room and as I did that I would swear that I would somehow resist having any. Flash forward to an hour later and picture me face to face with the latest treat. I would make promises to myself "today I will go to the gym", "I will eat healthy for the rest of the day", "I will fidget more today". So I found it humorous that other people do the same thing.

And this next one is a little odd. Well really odd.
But somehow, the more I watched...I kinda found it cute-and then that creeped me out a little more.

Have you seen anything good on the ole internet lately?

EDIT: I just found the following video this morning....Jon consider yourself warned, Frank and I will be in rehearsal so we can one day do this.

The Emmy Awards

Last night Jon, Frank and I went over to Jon's parent's house to watch the Emmy's. Frank and Jon weren't totally into the show but I was all over it. I love award shows, the fashion, the skits, the winners, ahhh it is all so great!

Overall I wasn't totally wowed by the fashion. The Mad Men, the Mad Ladies if you will, looked very nice though. I liked January Jones' dress but it kinda sat funny. And I'll admit it, I was really excited to see little Sally Draper on stage with the rest of the cast, she is such a little scene stealer.
In my eyes, the real standout of the night was Clare Danes. Such a simple dress but so beautiful. Your so called dress hit the mark with me.
You just know I have to say something about the opening sketch. Oh my Mr.Jon Hamm, you are such a, well, a ham! In my opinion this totally raised Jon Hamm's stock in my mind but Jon's sister was a little creeped out to see Don Draper dancing and singing. What did you think?

And The WInner Is.....

Good Monday Morning to you all!!

A Little Help From My Friends

You know the old saying, "when it rains it pours"? Meaning when one thing goes wrong everything else seems to follow suit? Well I have a friend, Chris, that has a family that is stuck in the middle of a proverbial down pour. They are looking for hope anywhere they can find it and oddly enough it has come from an online contest for a car. Chris contacted me a couple days ago and asked for my vote and to spread the word in any way I can. So that is what I am doing, asking my friends for a little help.

If you can go here enter your email and click submit there will be a confirmation email sent to you, click the confirmation in the email and you are done. That's it. Something so simple would make a world of a difference to someone.

When it rains it sure does pour, but it doesn't mean your friends can't offer an umbrella.

Modern Day Style Icon

I LOVE fashion, but as I've said before, I like simple style like Jackie O. Less is more a lot of the time with me. Sure, I love those super crazy avant garde styles you see in fashion week etc. But I look at those more as wearable art, not really realistic for everyday.

I was watching Entourage the other day and realized that Sloan (Emmanuel Chriqui) is my current day fashion icon. She always looks so put together, doesn't look like she is trying too hard etc. I know, I know, she has a stylist so I guess I should be praising him/her. But I don't know who they are so Emmanuel it is!
She always looks flirty, feminine and well put together among a cast of all men.

Hardly any makeup but the jewelry, dress and hair all look simply perfect.
And of course she is a beautiful. So she's got that going for her too.

Who is your modern day style icon?

Tid-Bits

Do you guys know when it is time to get a new yoga mat? (there isn't a punch line, I just really don't know when it is time to get a new yoga mat). I've had my current mat for a couple years so I am not sure if that is totally normal or incredibly strange.
I did roll it out and wash it down the other day. At which point Frank decided it was his new place to hang out. And now every time I do yoga at home he makes himself at home on the extra space. Looks like he and I have similar color preference.
Speaking of yoga, I have found a great podcast on itunes from yogadownload.com. There are tons of 20 minute yoga sessions that are long enough to feel like I am getting a good stretch but short enough so that I can do them anytime. Oh and they are free! Booyah!

Ooh and I found a wine rack! My brand new wine collection has a home! What do you think?
There is a better picture of it here. I really love it, so chic. It also encourages me to keep the counter top clean because clutter obviously doesn't go. That's all I got for now. I am in the midst of this blog re-design so my mind is focused on that right now. I can't wait to show you guys the new design!! Oh yeah, and there is one heck of a giveaway coming your way! (If you want to contribute something to the giveaway it isn't too late! Contact me at SensiblySassy@gmail.com)

I've Been Upstaged By A Wall

For my first installment of "What I Wore" everyone seemed to be interested in the color of the accent wall in my bedroom. I can't blame you, it is a great color. I picked it out myself thankyouverymuch!

So not to leave you in suspense the color that is responsible for this

is called Navajo Turquoise by Kelly Moore (Catalogue number KM3199-3).

So there ya go! Get painting!
Also, do you have a favorite paint color you would like to share with us? I'm always looking for inspiration!

Monday Morning Emo Post

Feeling sorry for myself isn't an past time I let myself take part in all that often. I try to avoid pity parties because I feel so fortunate for everyone and everything in my life, so it just doesn't seem necessary to sulk. But every so often I do. Like this past Saturday night. (Can you think of a worse way to spend a Saturday?)

Jon and I had gone to a party for a friend of the family in which some of our good friends were there. One of these good friends has a new fiance and I don't know too much about her so I made it my mission to really go out of my comfort zone and get to know her. Well she apparently wasn't on the same station and every attempt I made to get to know her she swatted away like I was a pesky fly. Awesome.

This really got to me and I am not completely sure why. It could have been because I really want to get to know someone so significant to one of my friends, but I think mainly it was because this is the third time it has happened. Each time I write it off as the wrong circumstances that lead to being flat out ignored by her. But after last night, the third time, I took it personally.

I didn't let it ruin my time but once I got home I got weak and weepy. Overall I am pretty good at getting frustrated/angry/annoyed over other people acting rude. After a couple rants here and there I am usually over it. But last night I actually felt sad. Something about this person tapped into my insecure side, a side I hardly ever show myself. But whoa, there she was little miss middle schooler, as I like to call her.

I started to get anxious because I never really feel sad over social interactions. I feel sad over those Sarah McLachlan dog adoption commercials and stuff like that. This was a feeling I am not used to having, well not since I was virtually friendless in middle school. It is such an uncomfortable feeling. Somehow or another this sobfest made me realize that I need to strengthen my social interaction with friends so that when something like this does happen I won't feel like such an occurrence is such a big deal. I need to call friends more, join people for coffee, I need to get myself out there. It feels like it has been so long since I went out on my own, since I went out just cause. A lot of it has to do with the fact that I have been seriously invested in school for the past couple of years and most recently I wasn't making all that much money. But now, those things have changed but I have somehow still maintained my homebody mentality.

I love my nights in with Jon, I love them like you wouldn't believe; but I think I have become too dependant on them. I think when someone describes you as "Sarah, of Jon and Sarah" (which happened quite a few times recently), you know you need a change. I am so proud to be a part of "Jon and Sarah" but I want to be known as Sarah too. I want to be invited to things that are not just for couples. I need a change. Saturday's debacle proved to me just how lonely I really was feeling and how I wasn't letting myself realize it.

My Favorite Mad "Man"

Disclaimer: Jon and I have only seen seasons one and two of Mad Men. Please oh please do not comment with anything about season three or four. I mean we are friends right? You wouldn't do that to a friend would you? That being said I will try not to divulge too much from season one or two for those of you in the same boat. (Warning: I won't say anything major about the show plot but I warn you, I do loosely talk about some of the plot)

A couple of days ago when I told you guys that I have been obsessed with Mad Men as of late the lovely X from Starts with an X asked me which characters I took a liking to. Honestly, the thing that I think makes the show so compelling is that all of the characters have layers, stories and in their own way, something I find endearing about each of them. (Yes, even Pete Campbell)

But I didn't want to leave you hanging with such a vague answer so I made my self pick a favorite, so I picked Betty. Betty is the sweet, perfect and even annoying at times, Matriarch of the Draper family.
I know, I know what you are thinking, "She's so boring, robotic and...perfect". Well I think that is one of the reasons I love her. We all know that no one is perfect, especially the characters on this show. But the fact that Betty is the least complicated makes her more realistic. Not all of us have false identities or a love child but most of us have to keep our cool on a regular basis, when on the inside we really just want to flip a table at a "prostitution whore".
No? Just me and Teresa? Sorry, wrong show. Anyway. I think it is fascinating to see Betty walk and sometimes stumble the line of being good for everyone else and "losing it" every so often. She has a constant push pull relationship with her role as the perfect wife, mother and daughter and I think as women that is something that we all grapple with; even in modern times where it is ok to speak our mind and not be perfect all the time. But for most of Betty's life she didn't have an option, women were perfect in all areas and if they wanted more or less that was just too bad. Thanks to the women's liberation movement, which is very subtly making itself known to Betty, she is stepping outside of perfect and taking her perfect little shoes for a walk on the wild side.
And if that means she wants to stay in her party dress for two days...so be it.

Do you watch Mad Men? Who is your favorite character?

Things That I Cannot Do Well:

*Well, it is no secret, I can't ride a bike very well.

*Laugh quietly. I am that person that everyone in a quiet restaurant turns around to look at because my laugh has cut the silence like a knife.

*Use a hole punch. I don't know, it usually comes out crooked.

*Lie. I always smile or do something else that makes it obvious that I am not telling the truth.

*Say something risky without knocking wood. Ex: I haven't gotten sick this year (*Immediately knock on wood*)

*Walk and drink any beverage. Every time I have tried to walk and drink said drink ends up all down my front.

*Stop reading a book half way through. Even if it is an awful book I force myself to read it so I know for sure that it was awful all the way through.

*See. My eyesight is so bad. Without the aid of glasses or contacts I couldn't read the screen on the laptop that is sitting right in front of me.

*Write in cursive. This is something I am really sad about, in middle school they gave us the choice to continue writing in cursive or go back to printing. I, like a lazy middle schooler, chose printing.
So tell me, what can't you do?

This post was first seen at Just Expressive. Thanks for the inspiration Raven :)

Time To Make A Change

On the 27th of this month I will have been blogging for 3 years! THREE. I almost can't believe it. It is a lot longer than I ever imagined, with results I would have never guessed possible. In three years I have gone to Blogher (once, sad face-I WILL be going next year!), met wonderful people with whom I still keep in touch with, found the breeder that we got our wonderful Frank from, and I am even a Nintendo Brand Ambassador!

Sometimes it is hard to have something to talk about all the time and sometimes I just get in a funk that causes me to neglect this blog. But you know what I have found? I feel happier when I blog. True story. It feels good to put effort into this little url. It is all mine and there are wonderful people that visit to see what I have posted. I sometimes lose sight of that.

So I have decided to make some changes, turn up the effort if you will, on my blogging. It is almost as though I have had a little epiphany of sorts, "Hey you, you like blogging, let's show some effort!"
So the first of these little changes is that I finally purchased my domain name. So if you would be so kind, please update your readers and bookmarks to read:
www.sensibly-sassy.com
The official home of Sensibly Sassy!

Some other changes you can look forward to? A total blog makeover and a giveaway that will make you squeal with delight! (which by the way, if you are interested in having your product featured in my blogoversary giveaway please contact me at sensiblysassy@gmail.com)

Thanks for visiting and I can't wait to show you what I have up my little sleeve!

To Quote a Friend, "Wine Me!"

I have always wanted to have a wine collection but, well, Jon and I drank it too fast to ever have one. So when I stumbled upon the wine section at Big Lots I knew the time had come to start my collection. Yes, I got my wine at Big Lots, what of it? Well actually, my mom bought me these bottles because when I moved out she said she wanted to start me a wine collection. Which I thought was slightly weird because the site of me holding a beer bottle gives her chills. But hey if she was game so was I baby! Sassy likes her wine!

So after serious consideration (meaning scanning the shelves for pretty labels and serious labels) I had picked the first line up of my wine collection.
Now I just need to find a cute wine rack, preferably one I can hang on the wall, if that even exists. I was thinking of this one or this one.
Do you all have suggestions for wine racks or bottles of wine?

Stuff I Am Loving Right Now

Ladies and Gents here is a quick little list of things that are putting a spring in my step. And you might notice that a lot of these things were purchased on the cheap which definitely adds to their appeal.
These gorgeous gladiolas make me smile every time I walk past them. They were $6 for 12 stalks (?). What I am loving most about these flowers is that they are all different colors! Usually Trader Joe's includes only two different colors, but the rainbow of colors makes me even happier!
My next happy point of happiness is this lotion that I bought in Truckee on our way home from Tahoe. The thing I love most about it is that it smells delicious and it is 100% all natural! (You can see more reasons why I love this lotion on my review blog)
The next thing that has me oddly excited is reusing glass containers (weird I know). To the left you have an old bourbon bottle that is now our mouthwash bottle. In the center is an old candle container that now acts as a shell "display" in our bathroom. And lastly that little guy on the right is an old corn salsa jar that now acts as the collector of all money I find in the laundry.
And last but not least, Jon and I are about 4 seasons behind on this, but MadMen-ohmahgah! What a great show. I am renting the season from the library-which means they are free ninety nine! Woot! This show is so well written and the fashion makes me swoon. (We just started season 2, so no spoilers please)

What are you loving right now?

celebration of life

My dad is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He never says a bad thing about others and really just looks at the world in a positive way. Believe me I strive to be more like this but even his rose colored view on the world has it's mishaps.

For instance:

My parents and I were sitting around in their kitchen yesterday talking about Chelsea Clinton's wedding.
Let's pause for a moment and give a round of applause for how beautiful she looked:
Ok now that we have that out of the way, back to the story.
My Dad was saying how he thought Chelsea's wedding was too big of an ordeal. I agreed to a point but said I thought that the wedding was fitting for a daughter of the former President and the Secretary of State.

My Dad then said: I think when you get married it should be a quiet little celebration of life.
Me: You mean a funeral?
Dad: No, a celebration of life
Mom: Honey, a celebration of life is a funeral-I think we want our daughter's eventual wedding to be a little more lively than a funeral.

He meant well, but I am going to have to agree with my mom on this one.

That Curb Came Out of Nowhere!

This past weekend Jon, Frank and myself took a quick trip to Tahoe with his cousin and his cousin's girlfriend. We stayed at a really great place, complete with lights that turn on as you walk in the room and an indoor swimming pool! Really, it was lovely. You'll just have to trust me on that because I forgot to take pictures-bad blogger, bad!

Sigh.

So not only did this house have a pool, they had bikes. Ugh, bikes.
Jon suggested that we should take them out for a spin. I really try to be open to new experiences. Really truly. But bikes are not my thing. At all. Not even a little. Technically, yes I can ride a bike but I lack the enjoyment factor. Bringing my open-mindedness with me I jumped on the bike and rode down the street. At one point Jon tried to ride next to me, to which I replied, "Get away from me, you are too close!!!" Needless to say our bike ride lacked romance, whimsy or fun, so we turned around shortly after starting.

My parents really tried to help me learn but their efforts never stuck. For my 10th birthday they bought me a new bike. They decided to use the fact that I enjoy gifts to their advantage. Well, I walked outside and saw my purple bike with hot pink paint splatters and completely forgot the fact that I wasn't bicycle capable. By this time some neighbors that heard my squeals of delight had come out of their houses to watch me take the maiden voyage on my bike.

I pedaled with excitement. Things were looking up! Maybe it was the new bike, the curse was broken! I could ride a bike! And just like that I hit a curb, bounced off a bike and fell into a large bush. I just laid in the bush and listened as my neighbors quickly ducked back into their houses (to laugh their heads off at me I am sure). One older lady that came out of her house to watch me yelled down the street to my Mom, "Did you buy her a helmet too?"

So no, I don't ride bikes. I can, but not well. Sort of like taking a math test; it can be done, but not by choice. I did have a beautiful beach cruiser that I was warming up to riding, but it was stolen so I took that as an omen that bikes and I are not meant to be.

Can you ride a bike? Do you enjoy it?
