What is it about random acts of kindness that feel so good? I'm not necessarily talking about doing something nice for someone (which is nice) or even someone doing something nice for you (which is nicer). But I'm talking about the pure joy that comes from witnessing/reading about random acts of kindness. For example, this site has was pinned on pinterest and I found myself smiling while I read it. I don't think I am alone in this either. There is something about seeing the pure goodness of humanity being exhibited that just feels so inspiring.
The other night I was on the receiving end of a random act of kindness. I am back at the GAP for holiday hours and it was 20 minutes before closing and a customer comes up to me with a pad of paper and pen. I asked her if I could help her and she said, "What is your favorite drink at Starbucks?" I paused and gave her a quizzical look to which she answered, "Everyone in this store has been so kind as I shopped. I would love to thank you all with a free drink". My jaw dropped to the floor...and then I told her an herbal tea sounded awesome.
Sure enough she showed up about ten minutes later with drinks for everyone. I thanked her for her kindness and promised her that I would make sure to pay it forward. And I mean it. I just have to figure out what to do. Any ideas? Have you done an act of random kindness? Have you been on the receiving end of a random act of kindness?
